GETTING THERE
TRAVEL FINDER for PENNSYLVANIA COUNTIES
INTERCITY BUS SERVICE IN PENNSYLVANIA As we all know too well, intercity, over-the-road buses (OTRB), have been notoriously inaccessible for many people with disabilities. After years of delay, ADA regulations for these bus companies were finally issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation in the fall of 1998. Given the requirements of the regulations it will likely still be at least 6-12 years from 1998 until all over-the-road bus companies have to be in full compliance. Beginning October 2001 for large companies and October 2002 for small companies, fixed-route OTRB companies must provide service in an accessible bus to a passenger who requests it with 48 hours' advance notice. Before those dates, OTRB companies must provide boarding assistance onto inaccessible buses, if accessible buses are not available. This interim service must continue until the OTRB companies' fleets are 100 percent accessible. So, where can you travel in Pennsylvania on intercity buses? Here is a list of where major intercity bus services travel now in Pennsylvania.
